I am a fan of crowd pleasers like Vampire Diaries and while it’s on air; I know no other series. So now that season 2 is over and what a spectacularly frustrating and thrilling season finale it was; I am at a loss of what to watch. After surfacing from Vampire Diaries I discovered one series by the name of Empire.
Empire is based on Rome immediately after Cesar’s brutal murder by his senators. It isn’t Spartacus in the sense that there’re little bloody and sexual scenes. Rather it focuses on the plots and schemes of the players involved and gives new angles on the characters in that time. Brutus for example, is portrayed as being remorseful for Cesar’s death and guilty for his participation in it. It is an interesting version of the story. Empire is reported to be the most expensive pilot ever having used $50 million.
Another series I discovered, thanks to my twitter friend @dwanzi_, is Games of Thrones. It is highly acclaimed and very popular amongst its viewers. Also based in old school times, it’s about the plots and schemes of the heirs and heiress to a throne.
A lot of ancient times based series hitting the trend nowadays and very well made too. A strong recommendation to all jaded by the redundant teen-bop wannabe dramas and the supernatural serieses that don’t live up to their hype. Reminding me of one supernatural series also making rounds called Lost Girl. From what I’ve heard; it’s not bad and actually watchable.
As the regular and popular serieses wrap up across the pond; these are a few alternatives to tide you over until the short summer serieses debut. Look out for Tru Blood season 4.
