I truly feel or rather can't.

PROM movie review

As an avid movie fan, it is quite easy to find oneself saturated by certain themes. So when I saw the PROM poster at 20^th, I rolled my eyes and hoped it wouldn’t come because I wasn’t going to tolerate yet another attempt to recapture the magic of 1980s movies of the bad boy and the good girl and one great night.

Then it didn’t come and I was curious. So I got my hands on the movie and sat down to watch it; skeptical as I was.

It surprised me by being well written, well delivered and well sold. No over-dramatic acting, no over-reaching settings. The movie was simply set as a feel good movie with a little hope of things turning out right at one point.

The movie starts off with the prom committee head’s hopes and dreams of a wonderful prom for her classmates. After a wonderful set up of what prom means to different people, the project goes up in flames. Fortunately, she is an optimist and after alerting the principal that she needs help to redo the whole project, she finds herself saddled with the school’s resident misunderstood(Mr.). They manage to bring the whole project back to life but along the way, are opened to new perspectives and feelings.

Thumbs down…none if you are looking for a straight forward, feel good movie. Everything is done to the expected scale.

Thumbs up. For a Walt Disney movie it was surprisingly not ridiculously over the top and garish. The lighting was perfect, the dialogue was engaging and the characters were given just the right amount of depth so as to be realistic but not so much that you get a buzzkill for being too invested. The music selection is appropriate, especially if you’re an avid pop fan. The movie is aptly comical and even if one is feeling low, they will find themselves easily engaged and not regrettable uplifted by the movie.

Grab this for a date with your friends or significant other just for fun.
